Matakana Pod
One of the special features of our kura is Matakana Pod. The Pod consists of a junior and a senior class where tamariki from New Entrant through to Year 6 are taught in a whānau setting. Māori tikanga is woven through everyday life in the Pod and the curriculum is taught through a Te ao Māori lens. The idea is for tamariki to remain in the Pod throughout their time at KKPS and to develop their level of Te Reo as they move through the kura. We are in the process of re-developing our strategic direction for the classes, enhancing the level of Te Reo spoken with the aim of them becoming bilingual classes. Many of the tamariki who join Matakana Pod move on to Te Wharekura o Mauao when they move into Year 7.
Whānau are encouraged to be actively involved at the kura and to help us shape plans for the Pod. The kaiako are supported by kaiāwhina and the tamariki love working with our kapa haka tutor too.
If you are enrolling your tamariki at our kura and you think they would thrive in this environment, please contact Mrs. Dyer (mdyer@katikati.school.nz) for further information.
